October 2005 Attorney Croog attended New Century Mortgage Corporation’s Default Servicing Bankruptcy Reform Act Symposium in Santa Ana, CA. The Symposium was conducted in the “Hollywood Squares” format. Attorney Croog was one of the “squares” who, with other national NCMC attorneys, fielded a broad spectrum of questions on the BAPCPA from the NCMC foreclosure, bankruptcy and REO specialists. This unique and challenging educational experience covered all aspects of the BAPCPA which impact the foreclosure, bankruptcy and REO processes. NCMC’s recreation of the original television format and “set” gave the audience a rewarding and enlightening learning experience on the BAPCPA.

October 2005 Attorneys Kathryn Sylvester and Sarah Black joined the Law Office of Martha Croog, LLC. They both practice in the firm’s commercial litigation, foreclosure and bankruptcy departments. October 2005 Attorney Croog attended the Connecticut Mortgage Bankers Association seminar, “Meet the Bankruptcy Court”. The Chief Bankruptcy Judge, the Chapter 13 Trustee and the US Trustee for the District of Connecticut were among the distinguished panelists for this highly engaging seminar on the anticipated application of the BAPCPA in Connecticut.

September 2005 Attorney Croog attended the 2005 REO Business Partners Summit sponsored by Option One Mortgage Corporation at Dana Point, CA. This innovative and vastly informative Option One Summit was devoted exclusively to REO concerns, pivotal in the mortgage banking industry.
Attorney Croog was a featured panelist for the REO seminar dedicated to an overview of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (the “BAPCPA”) and its implications for evictions and ejectments. The 3-day Summit, which was attended by Option One’s business partners - attorneys, brokers, appraisers and title companies, featured a broad diversity of subjects of significance to REO practice. Attorney Croog participated in seminars on Appraisal and Corporate Reviews; REO Title Issues; Fraud concerns in REO and other challenges and opportunities which impact the REO process.

September 2005 Attorney Croog was approved as a limited agent for Fidelity National Title Insurance Company.

May 2005 Attorney Croog attended A Mayor’s Forum on Affordable Housing, sponsored by the Connecticut Mortgage Banker’s Association. A diverse panel consisting of Connecticut mayors, were panelists in a seminar which assessed current trends and underwriting concerns for lenders with respect to Connecticut affordable housing financings.

March 16, 2005 Attorney Croog lectured on current legal and business implications for lenders under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act on behalf of the Loss Mitigation Committee of the Connecticut Mortgage Bankers Association.

In March 2005 Attorney Croog also participated in the efforts of the Legislative
Committee of the Connecticut Mortgage Bankers Association
with respect to pending bills addressed to predatory
lending and an internet forum for borrowers. On
May 18, 2005 Attorney
Croog will attend A Mayor’s Forum on Affordable
Housing in order to assess current trends and underwriting
concerns for lenders with respect to Connecticut affordable
housing financings. The Finance,
Revenue and Bonding Committee recently adopted a bond
package for the 2005-07 biennium totaling $2.3 billion
($1.1 billion in 2005-06 and $1.2 billion in 2006-07)
or about $183 million more than the Governor proposed
in her bond package.) Among other things
the Finance bond package calls for a bonding increase
for (i) various housing projects and programs administered
by the Department of Economic and Community Development
and the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority by a
total of $11 million over the biennium; and (ii) Urban
Action grant increases from $40 million to $80 million
each year of the biennium.

Attorneys
Lambert and Corriveau recently attended a Connecticut Credit
Card Abuse and Resistance Education (CARE) Program Event sponsored
by the Honorable Albert S. Dabrowski, the Chief Bankruptcy Judge
for the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut-New
Haven Division. Attorneys Lambert and Corriveau became members
of the committee and will present features of the Program at
designed local schools.
